Problem We Helped Solve
During early construction and commissioning of the food-waste-to-energy facility in Victoria, grid power was unavailable. With critical bacteria at the facility that cannot survive for more than a few hours during a power outage, Delorean required a full-proof solution that could act as a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) and guarantee continuous reliable power.
What Needed to be Powered
Pumps, motors, control systems, and ancillary equipment needed to test, commission, and operate the plant prior to permanent grid connection.
Alternatives Assessed
The alternative considered was the use of a standalone diesel generator operating 24/7, coupled with a larger back-up generator to manage peak loads due to the criticality of the project. This option was considered less reliable than a hybrid BESS-generator solution, as it did not offer remote monitoring capability, and was more expensive.

“At Delorean Corporation, we design, build, commission, and operate Waste to Energy facilities and the BESS from Powershift was of great help to our project in Lilydale, Victoria. We utilised the 300kW BESS unit from Powershift during the late construction and the commissioning stage of this project. During early construction, the site was powered only by diesel gensets and by March 2025, the site required more power, and the fuel expense was increasing. Once we received the BESS on site, it was connected to temporary distribution boards during construction to supply power to critical equipment required to run 24/7, to recharge EWPs, and to power construction lighting. By October 2025, we started the commissioning stage for the facility and having the BESS on site allowed us to smoothly commission equipment ranging from 2kW to 200kW.
The BESS from Powershift was reliable and it was able to handle large loads without any issues. Thanks to the Powershift Team, especially Carl, for the smooth commissioning of the BESS and 24/7 online monitoring and support. Any external issue affecting the BESS was notified to us immediately and was resolved within the hour. This gave us peace of mind during the commissioning stage of our project, especially over the Christmas holidays when the site was not manned.
