THE BRIEF
Problem We Helped Solve
With a strong commitment to sustainability, Downer wanted a cleaner solution than relying on 24/7 diesel generators to power their off-grid site offices through construction of a weighbridge in Auckland, New Zealand. With generators producing significant CO2 emissions, noise pollution and requiring ongoing refuelling and servicing, Downer was seeking a smarter approach that could also help them meet their ESG goals.
What Needed to be Powered
Multiple site offices and general site power, with the requirement for the most sustainable hybrid option to support Downer’s sustainability goals.
Alternatives Assessed
The only other alternative for this site was a diesel generator running 24/7, which would also not enable Downer to leverage available solar.
THE POWERSHIFT SOLUTION

LX Series mobile batteries are a compact system with a wide range of applications across civil and commercial construction, site sheds, remote offices, events and more.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
Throughout the project, the hybrid system delivered a highly efficient and sustainable off-grid power solution, dramatically reducing generator use, emissions and operational costs while maintaining reliable power for the site.
Reduced Generator Run-Time by 93%
Operating on average only ~2.5 hours per week instead of running continuously
Clean, Emission Free Power
Reduction in >60 Tonnes of CO² emissions, with 88% of all site energy delivered through sustainable sources i.e. solar and battery.
Reduced Operating Costs
Savings of >$30,000 in fuel and >$17,000 in generator servicing and maintenance.
