Maximising temporary power supply on space-constrained social housing site
Powershift supported Buildcorp’s community housing construction project by supplying a compact BESS to suit their space-constrained site, supplementing their limited building supply to meet site demands.
The challenge
Buildcorp’s Woolloongabba housing site faced a major challenge: continuing construction operations that required a peak power demand of approximately 580A, while managing a limited temporary building supply and navigating limited site space.
What needed to be powered
- 200A Tower crane
- 220A Concrete boom
- 110A Hoist
- 50A Site power and lighting
The alternative
A 350kVA diesel generator to meet peak loads.
The solution
- Powershift deployed one P300 battery unit, capable of powering all site loads while charging from just 63A of the available 80A TBS.
- The battery powered all nominated site loads, using the limited grid supply to top up during periods of lower demand. This eliminated the need for a diesel generator entirely.
- The system was fully supported with 24/7 remote monitoring and expert support, ensuring reliable, continuous power and peace of mind throughout the project.

The Powershift battery has met our site requirements perfectly, enabling us to run our site accommodation, temp site power, crane and hoist seamlessly prior to permanent power connection being available. Probably the best thing I can say about the Powershift battery we’ve got on site is that I regularly forget it’s there!
The unit itself has been fantastic—powerful enough, reliable, and extremely compact which has suited our tight building site perfectly. Powershift were excellent in helping us size exactly what we needed and worked closely with us and our electrical contractors throughout the entire process. Their ongoing support has also been outstanding—they monitor the unit 24/7, are highly responsive, and work with us whenever site conditions change. They clearly know their stuff.
While the Powershift unit was cost‑competitive, it was ultimately the small footprint that was the key factor in our selection. The entire solution has been successful and I’ll definitely be looking to the Powershift team to help with temp power on my sites again in the future
